Huntingburg Police officer Christian Gogel investigated an outstanding warrant charge on Tuesday that was pending for a man known to local law enforcement as Leonides Velazquez.

Velazquez was wanted on several charges of Domestic Battery and Intimidation. Officer Gogel went to the last known address of Velazquez, 403 E. 2nd Avenue Lot #22 in Huntingburg, to try an locate him.

Upon arriving to the location a female who had been listed as the victim in the crimes committed by Velazquez, answered the door. She spoke with police informing them she had not been in contact with the suspect since the last incident was reported.

When asked for a picture of Velazquez she told police she did not have a personal picture of him. Police then asked the woman if she and her two children were the only occupants in the home. She informed police that a man by the name of Esau was also in the home.

Police questioned Esau about the known where about of Velazquez to which he stated he had not seen Velazquez for 4 to 5 months. From the reports filed during previous incidents police knew that Velazquez had last been seen driving a BMW with Delaware plates and questioned Esau about some BMW tires he had at the house.

Police then asked Esau for his ID which Esau provided. The Maryland State ID given to police by Esau identified him as 30-year-old Esau Alberto Ferrufino Lopez. Police then confirmed through Esau that he had previously owned a 2008 BMW a year ago but had just forgot about it.

Police left the home only to return a short time later to ask Esau if he would come down to the police station and speak with officers about his identification. He agreed and returned to the police station with the officers.

Police spoke with Esau at the station telling him they believed him to be Leonides Velazquez but that the woman at their home was covering for him because he is the father of her children. Esau confessed to being Leonides Velazquez but that he himself had never used that name.

Police then arrested Esau on a charge of False Informing a Class A Misdemeanor. He was booked into the Dubois County Security Center.
