The Spencer County Coroner’s Office has identified the elderly couple who perished in last Thursday’s deadly house fire.

They have been identified as 81-year-old Frederick Lorenz and his wife, 71-year-old Elizabeth Lorenz. The coroner says both died from smoke inhalation.

Spencer County Chief Deputy Coroner Matthew Connen says two bodies were recovered from a home in Chrisney.

The Chrisney Volunteer Fire Department was called to the fire on County Road 900N just after 5 am Thursday. Once the fire was out the two bodies were found inside the home on opposite sides of the structure.

No foul play is suspected, but the cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Indiana State Fire Marshall’s Office.
