The annual National Day of Prayer Service will be held this evening (Thursday May 3rd ) on the lawn of the Dubois County Courthouse begining at 6:30 pm.
This year’s theme is ” Pray for America–UNITY” which challenges us to mobilize unified public prayer for America. ”Making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”
Local ministers from Dubois County will be offering the prayers and the Praise Team from the First Baptist Church in Jasper will be providing the music for the service.
As in past years, the Dubois County Commissioners have issued a Proclamation declaring May 3 as a day that all residents of Dubois County join the state and country to come together and pray for America.
The National Day of Prayer was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.
In 1988, the law was unanimously amended by both the House and the Senate and signed into law by President Ronald Reagan designating the first Thursday of May as a day of national prayer. Every president since 1952 has signed a National Day of Prayer proclamation.
The service will last approximately one hour. Those who attend are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.
