Streetfest 2019 is slated as a fundraising celebration of the small community of Celestine, Indiana.

The one-day event will be held on the grounds of St. Celestine Church on Saturday, June 29th with the gorgeous scenery of the rolling hills of Celestine on full display. Streetfest 2019 is free to attend, parking and beer garden access are also free. It is an all-ages friendly event with fun for the whole family!

Saturday’s activities begin with a Super 5K race (4 miles in length), a tractor show, and a car show in Celestine Park. Bungee trampoline rides along with kids games, races, tractor pull, and inflatables get started at 10 am.  Midday activities include the inaugural free scavenger hunt, a sheephead card game tourney and a performance by the Dubois County Country Cloggers.

The Sandwich stand will open at 10 am and German Beer Garden opens at noon. The midafternoon features the WBDC Cornhole Tournament of Champions. Catholic Mass will be held in St. Celestine Church at 4 pm, with  St. Isidore Parish’s new Pastor, Fr. Jeff Read, presiding.

Based on the popularity of the homemade foods available at the previous years’ Streetfests, fried chicken, BBQ ribs, pork chops, hamburgers, bratwursts, and turkey tenders will continue to draw large crowds to the food stands.  To make the meal complete, all types of fresh made sweets and desserts will be sold by local community organizations. The area’s strong German heritage always shows itself through packed attendance at a beloved beer garden through the 1 am closing time.

The “rain or shine” fest is set to be staged on paved parking lots at St. Celestine Church along with other events located at the Celestine Park, and the grounds around the Church.  Huge tents and many tables and chairs will accommodate several thousand guests. Plentiful parking is available in the fields and streets around Celestine with the parking at the top of the west side of St. Celestine designated for handicapped parking.  There is also a drop-off spot at the top of the west side of the church hill.

The fun continues in the evening with the inaugural Good Time Games competition at 5pm. A mechanical bull begins at 6pm and the bungee trampoline jumper rides continue into the evening.

Streetfest 2019’s music entertainment is the nationally touring John Mellencamp tribute act MellenCougar who are based outside of Chicago IL. The shared experiences described in John Mellencamp’s lyrics bring the audience and band together while singing songs about youthful lust in songs like “Hurt So Good”, “Ain’t Even Done With The Night” and “I Need A Lover.”  In songs such as “Check It Out”, “Small Town” and “Jack and Diane,” you are reminded of what is truly important in life and how to recognize it. As the fiddle cries and the bass drum hits, patriotic songs like “ROCK in the U.S.A.”, “Rain on The Scarecrow” and “Pink Houses” drive you to dance as you raise your glass to toast the greatest country on earth, the United States of America. Beyond their set of Mellencamp hits, MellenCougar also will play a set of 70’s and 80’s rock classics. MellenCougar has shared the stage with Eddie Money, Blake Shelton, the Spin Doctors, Styx, Night Ranger, Jamey Johnson, and many other national acts.

MellenCougar will perform from 7 to 10:30pm. They will be followed by dancing fun with music provided by Boogie Tunes.

In addition to MellenCougar’s consistently talented regular band members, this Midwest party favorite will be joined by three amazing guests for their headlining Streetfest 2019 performance.  Special guests include:

Toby Myers joined John Mellencamp’s band upon the release of JM’s 1982 Album American Fool.  He recorded and toured with John through 1998 upon his retirement from Mellencamp’s band. Toby played on legendary hits such as Pink Houses, Small Town, R.O.C.K. In The U.S.A, Paper In Fire, Cherry Bomb, Check It Out, Rain On The Scarecrow, Lonely Ol’ Night, Get A Leg Up, Pop Singer, Human Wheels, and Key West Intermezzo. Toby has: played thousands of concerts, including shows in excess of 50,000 people; appeared in all of John’s classic MTV music videos, and, while still with JM, he backed legendary artists live including Bruce Springsteen, Johnny Cash, Lou Reed, and John Fogerty. Toby has previously linked up with MellenCougar on gigs in Southern Indiana to revisit his role in the legendary music he helped John Mellencamp create. Toby and his wife (Model Roberta Chirko ) reside in rural Brown County.

Moe Z MD was born in Mississippi, and moved, with his family, to California, as a youth, to pursue opportunities in the music industry.  Moe Z was hired by John Mellencamp in 1996 to add some ‘beats’ to one of his albums. After Mellencamp worked with Moe and recognized his incredible talent and multi-instrumentalist / singing abilities, Moe was added to Mellencamp’s touring and recording ensemble.  Moe remained in John’s band through 2002 when he left to join The Wallflowers. Moe’s music career is filled with incredible names; a musical friend to Snoop Dogg in his early days, a collaborator with Rapper Tupac Shakur, a touring singer with Earth Wind & Fire; Moe has spent over 25 years working in the music industry. In his time with Mellencamp, Moe worked on four albums including hit singles Key West Intermezzo, Just Another Day, Peaceful World, Your Life Is Now, and I’m Not Running Anymore. A career highlight included performing at the 9/11 fundraiser The Concert For New York City, while in Mellencamp’s band, sharing the stage with Paul McCartney, The Who, David Bowie, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Stones’ bandmates Mick Jagger and Keith Richards,  Bon Jovi, Jay-Z, Destiny’s Child, the Backstreet Boys, James Taylor, Billy Joel and many more. Having recently relocated back to Indiana, Moe decided to re-connect with MellenCougar to revisit the good times he had playing John’s music on stage.

Bobby Clark is a local Singer/Songwriter, based in nearby Boonville, IN.  Bobby Clark is familiar to annual Streetfest attendees, as he headlined the festivities back in 2015. A staple on the Southern Indiana music scene for over 25 years, Bobby Clark has a reputation as an outstanding singer and performer. Known to Mellencamp fans for years, thanks to his family ties to John, Bobby became even more well known when John Mellencamp recorded Bobby’s song Grandview and made it the lead single for his Album Sad Clowns and Hillbilliesin 2017. Mellencamp turned the song into a duet, on record, with Country Star Martina McBride. Mellencamp’s version garnered a hit country single and video for the song and shared it on numerous TV shows including NBC’s Today and The Tonight Show. At a promotional concert in New York City, Mellencamp had Bobby join him on stage to duet on Grandview. The tune was named for a town in Southern Indiana where Clark spent much time. Clark has developed a friendship with MellenCougar and loves getting up and performing Mellencamp classics with the band, including Grandview. Bobby has released numerous albums, on his own, including his recent 2019 album Circle.

Proceeds from the fest will be distributed to the organizations and charities of the Celestine community. The fest leadership team would like to extend their thanks to the large pool of sponsors and volunteers who are coming together to make the fest a success!

Celestine is located in Southwestern Indiana, near Jasper and Patoka Lake, on the eastern edge of Dubois County.
