The Dubois County Substance Abuse Council is set to host its Second Annual Overdose Awareness Vigil on Thursday, August 29th at the Market Street Park in Huntingburg from 7:00PM-8:00PM.

The Dubois County Substance Abuse Council hosted a well-attended, well-received Overdose Awareness Candlelight Vigil last August in conjunction with International Overdose Awareness Day. This year, they are back again to continue this important event.

In the current reality of substance addiction and overdose, those who have struggled with addiction or watched loved ones do so deserve recognition and support. The event includes, but is not limited to, the following: guest speakers who have encountered addiction, a poem-reading about addiction’s effects, an opportunity for members of the public affected by addiction to speak, live music, a candle-lighting ceremony, and a bio-degradable balloon release in which participants are encouraged to write a message to loved ones who have lost their fight with addiction, provided materials on substance abuse, addiction, grief, local resources, and more!

Attendees are encouraged to bring a picture of their loved one if they wish, as well as blankets and/or chairs to sit on. They hope you will join them—rain or shine—in their efforts to bring increased awareness to overdose in our community and to remember loved ones who have experienced the perils of addiction. You can find out more about the event by looking the group up and “liking” their Facebook page, “Dubois County Substance Abuse Council” or by emailing coordinator Jenna Bieker at dcsac@duboiscountyin.org.
