School officials and the Jasper Police Department are investigating a gun threat made to Jasper Middle School.

According to a press release from the school, a student sent a picture of a gun with a threatening statement to another student.

The Superintendent of  Greater Jasper Consolidated Schools, Tracey Lorey, says an investigation into the threat and a formal threat assessment were completed by school administrators and JPD was contacted.

Superintendent Lorey says students and staff were never in any danger.

Tonight’s Jasper Middle School Block Party will go on as scheduled. The superintendent says there is no concern for the safety concern for those who come to the block party.

Both the school and JPD will continue to investigate the situation with consequences for the student.
