The Association of Indiana Counties (AIC) announced that Dubois County Council Member Jerry Hunefeld received the 2019 Outstanding County Council Member Award. The award recognized his contributions made to the county government throughout his years of public service.

Hunefeld has served on the Dubois County Council since 1974, having been re-elected 11 times. Hunefeld served as Vice-President for 8 years and is serving as President for the past 2 ½ years. He is a member and past president of the Huntingburg Optimist Club, a member of the Holland Kiwanis Club, a member of the Advisory Board for the Dubois County Community Corrections program, a member of the Community Justice Committee, a member of the Dubois County Community Foundation, and a member of the Dubois County and Indiana State Teachers Association. He taught 41 years in the Southwest Dubois School Corporation before retirement.

The award was presented during the AIC’s 61st Annual Conference in Orange County last month. The AIC’s Annual Conference is the largest gathering of county officials in the state. Representatives from public agencies, private entities, and local elected officials addressed issues such as rural services, jail management, firearms training demonstrations, options for archiving and digitizing documents, alternative energy, collaborative management, and so much more.
