A Huntingburg man is dead after a car crash in Evansville.

Authorities say that 19-year-old Brian Cruz of Huntingburg died Tuesday night in Evansville after stealing a car.

According to the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were called by a woman saying that her car and money had been stolen after an argument at the woman’s home on Evansville’s west side.

An officer noticed the stolen car and attempted to conduct a traffic stop before the car sped off down State Road 65. Cruz had an active arrest warrant for burglary and for failing to return to lawful detention

Officers chased the stolen vehicle until the suspect collided with a semi near the intersection of Saint Wendel. Cruz was killed in the crash. The semi driver was not hurt.

The road was closed for about five hours.
