Dozens of firefighters and commercial grain handlers across the country died in grain bin accidents last year. And now, firefighters in Dale have the gear and training needed to prevent these types of accidents.

The Carter Fire District is one of 41 departments around the country receiving a grain bin rescue tube, augur system, and specialized training from a campaign with German American Insurance and Nationwide.

The fire district has held training sessions with the new equipment and taught firefighters with a series of entrapment and rescue simulations.

The simulator is loaded onto a trailer and is able to hold nearly 100 bushels of grain.
