With Halloween just around the corner, there’s nothing like getting into the spooky mood with a good book.

The Friends of the Ferdinand Library will hold their Second Saturday Basement Book Sale on Saturday, October 9, from 10 am to 1 pm. The sale can be entered from either the library’s main floor or through the north side doors off of the Ferdinand Community Center parking lot. Masks will be required as Dubois County’s Covid numbers are on the rise again. Masks will be available for those who come in without one. Social distancing will be enforced and hand sanitizer will be available.

October’s sale will feature an entire table of Halloween books for the young and young at heart. Spooky tales and eerie stories are plentiful. There might even be a spooky Friend that will make an appearance.

“Featured” tables are loaded with new donations of history, cookbooks, Red Hat books, knitting books, craft books, and Hoosier authors. The Friends have added new bookcases in the children’s area with a large donation of very nice children’s books and DVDs. Newly donated teen fiction can be found displayed on a separate table, including several complete sets of young adult novels. A special drawing for three $5 coupons to be used at future sales will be held.

Prices remain at $1 for hardback books; $.50 for paperbacks; $1 for most DVDs, CDs, and audiobooks; puzzles, children’s books, and books on the Collectible/Special table are variously priced.

Donations of gently-used books and puzzles are always welcomed. The Friends cannot take encyclopedias, textbooks, and/or outdated informational books. A donation bin is located in the library near the door to the basement. Thanks to all who replenish our shelves and tables.

Keep track of the Friends of the Ferdinand Library on their Facebook page. Several postings are made each month. Consider becoming a Friend for $10 per year. Membership pamphlets are available at each sale and at the library’s main desk. All monies made from the sale are used for library programming and materials. A recent Friend’s donation of $1500 will enable the library to replace many of their well-loved and worn children’s and young adult books plus provide materials for weekly children and teen programming.
