(Perry County, IN) Around 6:30 p.m. last night, the Perry County Sheriff’s Department was informed that a motorist from Virginia was overdue to arrive at their destination.

The caller advised local authorities of 35-year-old Maria Booker, of Locust Grove, Virginia, departed from Colorado earlier in the day and that Booker hadn’t made contact with anyone for several hours.

Officials with the Perry County Sheriff’s Office and Indiana State Police used Booker’s last known location, provided by the caller, to begin searching for the missing woman on I-64. Around 7:20 p.m. a 2018 Chevrolet was located near the 75.5-mile marker down the embankment of a heavily wooded area. The driver was deceased by the time the vehicle was located.

Law enforcement used registration information and a license to positively identify Maria Booker and contacted Virginia State Police to make the death notification.

An autopsy is currently pending. We will update this story with more information as it becomes available.
