(Ferdinand, IN) Sylvester C. “Syl” Voges, 85, of Ferdinand, passed away Monday, August 21, 2023, at Memorial Hospital in Jasper. Syl was born November 8, 1937, in Bristow to Frank and Loretta (Elmer) Voges. He was united in marriage to Anna Lee Bender on June 27, 1959, in St. Martin of Tours Church in Siberia.

Syl was a member of Christ the King Parish, St. Ferdinand Church, and its’ St. Joseph Sodality. He was a member of The Indiana National Guard, Ferdinand Community Center, Ferdinand Y.M.C.A., and The Fraternal Order Of Police. He was a retired Ferdinand Volunteer Fire Department member and served as President of the Ferdinand Jaycees for several years. Syl retired from Kimball Jasper Corporation after 44 years. Syl enjoyed watching all his grandchildren at their sporting events and spending time with Anna at Monte Casino Shrine. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and anything outdoors. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Anna Lee Voges, and two sons, Jim (Rita) Voges of Santa Claus, and Allen (Lisa) Voges of St. Anthony. One daughter, Diana (Kris) Schwinghamer of Ferdinand. Eight grandchildren, Blake (Allison) Voges, Lindsey (Jason) Pund, Leah (Joey) Tempel, Craig (Chelsea) Voges, Jordan (Johnny) Schwartz, Kari (Troy) Leinenbach, Kyle (Sydney) Schwinghamer, and Kaci Schwinghamer. Ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Randy Voges, his parents, and one brother, Francis Voges.

A mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 AM Friday, August 25th in St. Ferdinand Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 8:00 until service time in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Randy Voges Scholarship Fund or family wishes.
