Bettye L. Greulich, 89, of St. Meinrad passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at her home surrounded by family. Bettye was born on September 12, 1934, in St. Meinrad to Anthony and Marietta (Wiederkehr) Vaal. She was united in marriage to Leroy J. Greulich on April 23, 1955, in St. Meinrad. Leroy preceded her in death on December 3, 2021.

Bettye was a lifelong member of St. Meinrad Parish. She was a member of the St. Meinrad Legion Auxillary and the D.A.V. Auxillary. She retired after working 6 years at Masterbrand Cabinets and 8 years at the Abbey. She enjoyed playing cards and taking her grandchildren on walks on the Abbey grounds.

Surviving are two sons, Randy (Cindy) Greulich of Ferdinand and Gregg (Sally) Greulich of Ocala, FL. Two daughters, Cynthia Greulich and significant other Charles Tempel of St. Meinrad and Susanna Board of Georgetown. Eight grandchildren, Joshua, Adam, Tyler, Kyle, Landon, Chris Greulich, Chip Hockenbury, and Lela Board. Nine great-grandchildren. Siblings, Jerome Vaal of Arizona, Barbara Bennett of Hartford, KY., Antoinette Mundy of Nicholasville, KY., and Elmer Vaal of Canadian Lake, MI. Foster siblings, Norma Amos of Huntingburg, Kathy Hopf of Jasper, Jim Vaal, Ruth Ann Clark, and Connie Hildenbrand all of Ferdinand. A caregiver, Phyllis Roos. She was preceded in death by her parents and her foster parents, Robert and Mildred (Gogel) Vaal, a sister, Dorothy Gehlhausen, and a foster brother, Ray Vaal.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM CT Saturday in St. Meinrad Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, September 29th from 3:00 to 7:00 PM CT at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand and Saturday, September 30th from 9:00 AM CT until the time of the service at the church.
