Eugene M. Werner, age 78, of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 6:56 a.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2023, in St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper, Indiana.
Gene was born in Jasper, Indiana, on May 27, 1945, to Robert and Edna (Breitwieser) Werner. He married Jane M. Ackerman on October 23, 1971, in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana.
He was a 1963 graduate of Columbus West High School.
He was a United States Marine Corps Veteran, who served during the Vietnam War.
Gene retired in 2006 from the telephone company, where he had worked for 36 years.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, the VFW Post #673, and Jasper Outdoor Recreation.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and playing cards with his grandchildren.
Surviving is his wife, Jane Werner, Jasper, IN, three sons, Sam (Denise) Werner, Elberfeld, IN, Matthew (Ashley) Werner, Jasper, IN, Adam (Kristin) Werner, Jasper, IN, one daughter, Abby (Craig) Beck, Ireland, IN, 11 grandchildren, Alexandra, Mitchell, Jacob, Caleb, Max, Jaxon, Wyatt, and Sawyer Werner, Garrett, Eva, and Emery Beck, four sisters, Norma (John) Kimmerle, Jasper, IN, Betty Keeler, Margie Werner, and Marilyn (Jim) Shipley, all of Columbus, OH, three brothers, Jerry Werner and Leo (Ginger) Werner, both of Columbus, OH, and Tom (Mary Jane) Werner, Ireland, IN, and two sisters-in-law, Leona and Beverly Werner, both of Jasper, IN.
Preceding him in death are two brothers, Ray and Donald Werner, and one brother-in-law, Bob Keeler.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Eugene M. Werner will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper. The VFW Post #673 will conduct military gravesite rites.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the 2:00 p.m. Mass time at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Tuesday.
