95-year-old Betty J. Heichelbech of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 12:25 a.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, in St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper, Indiana.

Betty was born in Jasper, Indiana, on August 29, 1928, to Edward and Otillia (Hopf) Buehler.  She married Walter “Jerk” Heichelbech on June 17, 1948. He preceded her in death on December 17, 1970.

Betty owned and operated Heichelbech Restaurant for 38 years. In retirement, she worked at Circle A and Wooden Keg Liquor.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, D of I, St Ann’s Society, American Legion Post #147, Indiana Restaurant Association, 20th Century Literary Club, St. Vincent DePaul, Jasper Outdoor Recreation, and the Original Homemaker Club.

She volunteered her time at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center, St Charles Health Campus, Brookside Nursing Home, Red Cross, and RSVP.

She was an avid photographer. She enjoyed playing cards, scrabble, jigsaw, word puzzles, needlework, and Indiana basketball.

She is survived by one daughter; Beth Browning, Jasper, and three grandchildren; Justin and Jordan Browning and Tiffany (Shawn) Doogs, four great-grandchildren; Tia Pennington, Tara Pennington, and fiancé Kalin Knepp, Vance Pennington, and Ryan Doogs.

Preceding her in death besides her husband, is one son; Rodney Heichelbech, four sisters; Sally Schitter, Doloras “Jimmie” Mehringer, Lenora Knies, and Annie Schmidt,

A Celebration of Life Mass for Betty J. Heichelbech will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, November 27, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. A burial will be held at a later date in Fairview Cemetery.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until the 5:30 p.m. service time at the church on Monday.
