At approximately 1:42 am today, Daviess County Central Dispatch received a report of a single-vehicle accident on CR 700 North, east of CR 200 E, in Plainville.   

The preliminary investigation indicated a 2006 Pontiac G6 was traveling eastbound on CR 700 N and had trouble driving through a sharp S curve in the roadway causing the vehicle to go off the road and into a ditch.   

Officers identified the driver of the Pontiac as 21-year-old, Shawn Pershing, from Plainville, and the front seat passenger as 19-year-old, Breyden Pershing, from Elnora. Neither were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. 

Breyden Pershing was pronounced dead at the scene and the family has been notified at this time. 

Shawn Pershing was transported to the Daviess Community Hospital with a possible broken knee and ankle and then transported to St. Vincent in Evansville. 

The investigation of this accident is still ongoing.
