Hilda W. Bertke, 94, of St. Meinrad passed away Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Scenic Hills at the Monastery in Ferdinand. Hilda was born on November 19, 1929, in Ferdinand to Edwin and Philomena (Rahman) Weyer. She was united in marriage to Erwin F. Bertke on April 24, 1948, in St. Ferdinand Church. Erwin preceded her in death on April 23, 1997.

Hilda was a member of St. Meinrad Parish and the Ladies Sodality. She was also a member of St. Meinrad Legion Post 366Auxillary. She retired as a school cook at St. Meinrad Elementary and Nancy Hanks Elementary. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, baking, playing cards, gardening, and raising flowers.

Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Nigg of Newburgh and Carol (Burke) Etienne of Tell City. Three sons, Kenneth Bertke of Fredericksburg, VA., Lawrence (Beverly) Bertke of Owensboro, KY., and David (Ruth) Bertke of St. Meinrad. Eleven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Vicki Bertke and son-in-law, Daryl Nigg., one sister Leona Kunkler, and brother, Leonard Weyer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM CST on Friday, December 22nd in St. Meinrad Church. Burial will follow in St. Boniface Cemetery in Fulda. Visitation will be at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand on Thursday, December 21st from 3:00 to 7:00 PM CST and on Friday at the church from 9:00 AM CST until service time.
