Indiana residents will have the chance to cast their lines without a fishing license or trout/salmon stamp this Sunday, May 12th, as the state celebrates its first Free Fishing Day of the year.

During Free Fishing Days, anglers can explore Indiana’s public waters without the need for permits. However, all other regulations such as seasons, bag limits, and size restrictions still apply.

This event offers an excellent opportunity for beginners to learn the art of fishing, families to enjoy quality time together, or friends to discover the joys of angling. Interested individuals can check the DNR Calendar on the department’s website to find out which properties are hosting special fishing events for the occasion.

Three other Free Fishing Days will happen in Indiana later in 2024 those dates are June 1st and 2nd and September 28th.
