The Rockport Police Department posted on Facebook Tuesday to let the city know that an ordinance has been put into effect for the removal of animal waste and excrement. This includes dogs, cats, sheep, horses, cattle, pigs, ducks, geese, etc.

Any person who brings these animals into a public park or recreation area or onto any street, sidewalk, or public place is responsible for cleaning up the waste left behind by that animal.

Any waste left behind and not cleaned up will result in a fine and the person responsible in violation of the City of Rockport ordinances. At that time a fine of not less than $25 and no more than $100 per violation will be issued.

This law does not apply to a licensed animal trained to guide or assist a legally blind or incapacitated person by a medically diagnosed disability or to specially trained animals used by fire investigators or law enforcement to conduct their official duties.

This ordinance was signed into effect last week.
