The Tell City Fire Department (TCFD) will now respond to medical emergencies as certified Emergency Medical Responders (EMRs), following state certification. Volunteers trained through Indiana state-approved EMR courses will provide critical prehospital care until Perry County EMS arrives. The department is expanding equipment and supplies to support this mission.

This new service will cover Tell City and parts of Troy Township. Thirteen volunteers are trained, with 15 more to be trained by October 2024. The goal is to enhance emergency care, not replace existing EMS services.

This initiative addresses the growing need for medical response due to a decrease in fire calls and an increase in medical emergencies. TCFD aims to catch up with other counties already providing similar services, supported by local leaders and the Indiana State EMS agency.
