The Dubois County Sheriff’s Office has issued a second scam alert this week, cautioning the public about fraudulent calls using their office’s phone number. The callers are impersonating former employees, Sergeant Stuart Wilson and Captain Michael Shaw, or even using the name of Judge Nathan Verkamp to request money.

The Sheriff’s Office stresses that these calls are entirely fraudulent, urging residents not to send any money if contacted. Anyone who receives such a call is advised to hang up immediately and verify the request by calling the Sheriff’s Office directly.

This marks the second scam reported in just three days, heightening concerns about the frequency of these fraudulent activities. The Sheriff’s Office reminds everyone to always check the legitimacy of any payment requests to protect themselves from falling victim to scams.
