In the early hours of August 17, 2024, at approximately 3:49 AM, officers from the Jasper Police Department responded to a call at Meadowood Apartments on Rumbach Avenue regarding a male individual found passed out in 2011 Infiniti G37 which was parked and running.

Upon arrival, officers were able to wake the individual, who was later identified as 19-year-old Anderson Avelar, a resident of Jasper. Avelar was transported to Memorial Hospital, where a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) test was administered.

Following the investigation, Avelar was charged with multiple offenses, including Operating While Intoxicated (a Class C misdemeanor), OWI Endangerment (a Class A misdemeanor), and Minor in Possession of Alcohol (a Class C misdemeanor).

Avelar was subsequently transported and lodged in the Dubois County Security Center. The Jasper Police Department continues to remind residents of the dangers and legal consequences of driving under the influence.
