On the night of August 8, 2024, at approximately 9:48 PM, officers from the Jasper Police Department (JPD) conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of US 231 and Twelfth Avenue. The stop was initiated due to a speeding violation.

During the stop, officers detected the strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle, a green 2007 Jeep Liberty. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed multiple controlled substances, including marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy, and Xanax.

The driver, identified as 20-year-old Madilyn K. Stiles of Bloomington, exhibited signs of impairment. Stiles refused to submit to a chemical test, prompting officers to obtain a search warrant. Upon execution of the warrant, Stiles tested positive for cannabis, cocaine, and benzodiazepines.

Stiles was charged with multiple offenses, including:

  • Neglect of a Dependent (Level 6 Felony)
  • Operating While Intoxicated (Class C Misdemeanor)
  • Operating While Intoxicated Endangerment (Class A Misdemeanor)
  • Possession of Marijuana (Class B Misdemeanor)
  • Operating a Vehicle with a Schedule I or II Substance in the Blood (Class C Misdemeanor)

A passenger in the vehicle, 28-year-old Jarvel W. Whitfield of Bloomington, was also taken into custody. Whitfield was found to be in possession of marijuana and Xanax while being processed at the Dubois County Security Center. He faces the following charges:

  • Possession of Cocaine (Level 6 Felony)
  • Possession of Marijuana (Class B Misdemeanor)
  • Possession of a Legend Drug (Level 6 Felony)
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class A Misdemeanor)
  • Trafficking into Jail (Level 5 Felony)

Both individuals were lodged in the Dubois County Security Center following their arrests. The Jasper Police Department was assisted by the Indiana State Police, Dubois County Sheriff’s Office, and Sternberg’s Wrecker Service in the operation.
