On Thursday afternoon DC Broadcasting received two different phone calls from one local financial institution and another from a local retail establishment claiming phone scams were on the rise in the last three days.

These phone scams appear to be messages from your local banks, from big-box retail stores like Walmart, Target, Costco, Lowes, and Home Depot, and have a few different links and QR codes attached to them.

Some of the messages claim that your bank account may not be secure and you can secure it by clicking the link and following the instructions.

Other messages state your order from the aforementioned retailers had a problem processing and couldn’t be shipped, asking you to click the link for more information.

The callers want to remind the public to NOT click suspicious links and call or stop by their bank in person to verify their account is secure.

We will continue to monitor this story.
