Governor Eric Holcomb has declared September 2024 as College Savings Month in Indiana, emphasizing the importance of planning and saving for education. As part of the celebration, one lucky individual will win a $10,000 deposit into an Indiana529 account through the Indiana529 Education Sweepstakes.
To participate in the sweepstakes, eligible individuals 18 years or older must submit an entry form at MyIndiana529.com/sweepstakes by 11:59 p.m. on September 30, 2024. A winner will be randomly selected to receive the $10,000 Indiana529 account deposit.
Indiana Treasurer of State Daniel Elliott underscored the value of education savings. “Whether it’s tech, trade, registered apprenticeships, or traditional college, a child’s dreams are worth saving for,” said Elliott. “We’re proud to offer one Indiana family $10,000 in an Indiana529 plan to jumpstart those savings.”
Indiana529 offers flexibility to account owners and contributors, with funds usable at eligible schools or apprenticeship programs in or out of state. Contributions grow tax-deferred, and distributions remain tax-free when applied to qualified education expenses such as tuition, books, and equipment. Indiana taxpayers may also qualify for an annual state income tax credit of up to $1,500.
“Indiana529 is an incredible tool for families to help the young people in their lives prepare for the future,” added Marissa Rowe, executive director of the program. “Their dreams are worth saving for, and $10,000 is an excellent start.”
