On Thursday, September 12th, 2024, The Gibson County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer assigned to Fort Branch Community School received a report from a student regarding another student making threatening statements towards the school and other students. The student made these statements during an initial home room period at the beginning of the day.

The School Resource Officer immediately notified the school administration officials and the student was removed from classroom activities. The school administration officials and School Resource Officer conducted searches and safety checks of the school grounds to ensure other students’ safety. The School Resource Officer investigated along with the school administration and found that there was probable cause to arrest the juvenile.

The Juvenile offender was taken into custody, and transported to a juvenile detention facility. Juvenile charges were filed with the Gibson County Prosecutors Office.

On September 12th, 2024, The Gibson County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the East Gibson School Corporation about a reported school safety threat. This threatening material was posted to TikTok, and seen by students at the school. It does not appear that this threatening material was posted by any student or individual who has access to the school. This material appears to be following a recent trend of TikTok posts that has been seen around the country and the Tri-state area. School Officials took action to heighten security awareness at the schools to ensure the safety of the students.
