The Birdseye community is uniting in support of one of its most respected families with a benefit event on November 23, 2024, at the Birdseye Conservation Club to help Ron Wiseman, affectionately known as “Gonzo,” in his battle with cancer. The “All for Gonzo” fundraiser will feature something many local residents have been waiting for—an exclusive reunion of Band X, a local favorite in the Dubois County area during the 1980s and 1990s.
Ron Wiseman, a well-loved member of the community, was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma Laryngeal cancer in October 2022. Over the last two years, he has endured chemotherapy, radiation, and multiple surgeries, including a major procedure in August 2024 that removed his jugular due to severe scar tissue and further cancerous growth. Despite these challenges, Ron continues to fight while dealing with the financial burden that two years of medical care and his inability to work during treatments have brought to his family.
In response, the Wiseman family, well-known in Birdseye, calls on the community to come together to support this benefit. Friends, family, and community members have organized the event to assist Ron with his medical expenses and ongoing treatments.
Band X, once a powerhouse in the local music scene during the ‘80s and ‘90s, is coming back together just for this special event. Known for their energetic performances and classic rock sound, Band X was a household name in Dubois County and the surrounding areas. Their reunion has been years in the making, and their performance is expected to be a major highlight of the day, making the event even more meaningful for long-time fans and friends of Ron alike.
In addition to Band X, live music will feature performances from Eighty-Sixt, Wildcards, High Road, and Birdseye Music Company, with DJ services provided by Vicki Mann.
The benefit will also host a silent auction from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., offering food such as chili, beer dogs, burgers, chicken noodle soup, and a bake sale. The family is seeking donations and auction items to help make the event a success. Those interested in donating or contributing to the auction can contact Ron’s sister-in-law, Kelly G., former DJ at 92.5 WBKR, at 812-630-2925. Monetary donations can also be made at Old National Bank under the account name “Ron Wiseman Benefit.”
In addition to the live performances and auction, custom shirts are being made for the event. To order a shirt, click the following link or message Ron’s daughter Jordyn or his wife Shonna on Facebook for more information about the shirt sales: https://forms.gle/n67NdoKFezXk9JHT9. The shirt colors may vary depending on the style chosen, and any issues with the form can be resolved by contacting Jordyn directly.

Nicknamed “Gonzo” by his co-workers for his easygoing and resilient personality, Ron has touched the lives of many with his humor and dedication to others. As he continues to battle cancer, the outpouring of love and support from the Birdseye community and beyond is a testament to the impact he has made.
