On Sunday, October 13, at 3:00 p.m. EDT, the Sisters of St. Benedict in Ferdinand will welcome Brother John Glasenapp for a lecture on chant, as part of the St. Mechtilde of Hackeborn Sacred Music Series. This event will explore how the 15th-century Cistercian nuns of Beaupré navigated a period of liturgical transformation, offering valuable insights for today. The lecture is free and open to the public, with a free will offering available for those wishing to contribute.

Brother John Glasenapp, a monk of Saint Meinrad Archabbey since 2010, serves as the founding director of the Saint Meinrad Institute for Sacred Music. He teaches courses in Medieval Church History, music history, and medieval religious culture. His academic focus spans Cistercian chant, gender, musical reform, and religious manuscript studies. He has presented his research at various international conferences, including the American Musicological Society and the International Medieval Congress.

The Sisters of St. Benedict are honored to host this event through the St. Mechtilde of Hackeborn Sacred Music Series, an endowment established by the Verkamp family in honor of Sister Mary Aquin and Sister Mary Ann Verkamp. The series aims to provide sacred music performances and speakers for the monastic community and the public. Contributions to the endowment are welcome, and more information can be obtained by contacting the Mission Advancement office.

The Sisters of St. Benedict in Ferdinand, one of the largest Benedictine women’s communities in the U.S., remain committed to their mission of seeking God through prayer, community life, and service. Since their founding in 1867, their ministries have extended far beyond the local area, with members serving in education, healthcare, and various social services across the country.
