On October 19, 2024, at approximately 10:35 AM, Boonville police officers responded to a welfare check on Maple Street following reports of a two-year-old child left alone in a locked bedroom. According to the information received, the child’s parents had gone to a soccer game, leaving the toddler unattended.

Upon arrival, officers knocked on the front door and checked a boarded window, where they observed the child inside the room. Upon entering the home, officers discovered the toddler naked in the locked bedroom. They chose to wait at the residence for the parents to return.

Around 10:55 AM, the parents, Autumn Brown and Tyler Brown, drove past the house and noticed the officers with their child outside. They continued around the block, with another officer following them, before returning to the residence. At that point, the officers detained both parents and administered the Miranda Warning.

Autumn Brown explained to authorities that she believed it was acceptable to leave her child alone for a short period. However, the reporting party indicated that the soccer game started around 10:00 AM, raising concerns about the length of time the toddler was left unattended.

The Department of Child Services has since taken custody of the child. Autumn and Tyler Brown were transported to the Warrick County Jail and are currently being held on charges of Level 6 Felony Neglect of a Dependent. It is crucial to note that both individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
