Indiana State Police has promoted Sergeant Brock J. Werne to the rank of Lieutenant following a rigorous selection process. Lieutenant Werne will now serve as the Jasper District Commander after 17 years of dedicated service at the Jasper Post.

A Jasper, Indiana native and 2002 Jasper High School graduate, Werne earned an associate degree in Conservation Law from Vincennes University before pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology at Indiana State University. He joined the force in 2007 as a member of the 67th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy class and was initially assigned to patrol Crawford and Dubois Counties.

Werne’s career advancement includes promotion to Detective in 2017, where he specialized in homicide, cybercrime, and missing person investigations. By 2020, he had risen to Investigative Squad Leader for the Jasper Post, overseeing detectives and managing criminal cases across seven counties.

His service includes roles as a Field Training Officer, Standardized Field Sobriety Test Instructor, and Indiana State Police Honor Guard member. Werne’s exceptional performance has earned him multiple recognitions, including the Life Award in 2010 and 2011 for leading the district in impaired-driving arrests, and the Department’s Lifesaving Award in 2016 for suicide prevention efforts.

Lieutenant Werne resides in Dubois County with his wife Jessica and their children.
