Severe storms and tornadoes swept through the Midwest and South on March 15, 2025, resulting in significant damage and numerous fatalities. At least eight tornadoes were confirmed in Indiana alone.

In Orange County, an EF-1 tornado with estimated peak winds of 110 mph touched down near Orleans. The tornado started in West Baden Springs and traveled northeast for approximately 11 miles before lifting in Orleans. Along its path, it caused extensive tree damage and occasional structural damage, including the destruction of a small garage and significant damage to a 150-year-old barn near McAdams Road.

In response to the storm’s aftermath, Orleans residents are encouraged to assist in the cleanup efforts by placing limbs and storm-related yard debris on the brush pile at the Town Lake area. The gate to this area will remain unlocked for the next several days to accommodate debris disposal. This service is exclusively for Orleans citizens, and only limbs, brush, and yard-type debris will be accepted; no other discarded items are permitted. The area is under continuous monitoring to ensure proper use.

The community’s cooperation is vital in expediting the recovery process and restoring normalcy to the affected areas.
