The Indiana State Police Evansville District has published its official social media comment moderation policy, aiming to maintain a safe, respectful, and constructive online environment for community interaction. The policy outlines how the department manages public engagement on its official social media pages and what users should expect when interacting with the platform.

According to the statement, the page is intended to provide timely updates on safety matters, department initiatives, public notices, and local events. It also serves as a limited public forum to foster meaningful dialogue between the department and the public. The page is monitored by the Indiana State Police Public Information Officer.

Among the key terms of use, the department stresses that emergencies should always be reported by calling 911 and that social media is not an appropriate platform to report crimes or request police services. Instead, individuals are encouraged to contact their local police department or district office directly.

The policy warns that posting details about criminal activity could lead to legal consequences such as subpoenas or unintended exposure of sensitive information. Additionally, “liking” or “friending” the page does not imply endorsement of a user’s views by the department.

To ensure that public comments remain respectful and relevant, the Indiana State Police reserves the right to remove any content that violates viewpoint-neutral rules. Prohibited content includes threats, hate speech, sexually explicit material, spam, repeated disruptions (like trolling), and the sharing of confidential information or malware links.

The department also made it clear that opinions posted by users do not reflect the views of the Indiana State Police and that sharing external links does not equate to endorsement.

The Evansville District of the Indiana State Police encourages the public to stay informed and engaged through its social media channels, while also maintaining a space that promotes civil discussion and community partnership.
