The JFK Pool in Tell City has been closed for the remainder of the 2025 summer season following another incident involving broken glass in the water, raising ongoing safety concerns for patrons.
City officials confirmed that the most recent incident involved shattered goggles, which resulted in glass entering the pool. This led to an immediate shutdown as crews assessed the extent of contamination and the safety risk posed to swimmers.
This marks at least the second glass-related closure at the facility this summer. A previous incident in June also required the pool to be drained, cleaned, and chemically rebalanced before it was allowed to reopen. Following that initial closure, the pool resumed operations only after thorough inspections and sanitation.
Due to the repeated nature of the incidents and the extensive time and resources needed to safely drain and treat the pool again, city officials determined that the most appropriate course of action would be to close the pool for the rest of the season. The decision was made to prioritize the health and safety of all users and to prevent further disruptions.
Despite the pool’s closure, the adjacent splash pad remains open and free to the public. Officials say it will continue operating daily from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. through October 1st. The splash pad has been thoroughly inspected and cleared for use, with no safety concerns reported at this time.
For those seeking more information, the City of Tell City encourages residents to follow official announcements or contact local parks and recreation officials directly.
