The Indiana State Police is accepting applications for the 89th Recruit Academy for lateral applicants. All applications must be submitted electronically by 11:59 p.m. (EST) on Sunday, September 28, 2025.
Recruits of the 89th Recruit Academy will receive a wide range of benefits. These include Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits during the academy and probationary year, military and law enforcement service purchase options, and a new take-home patrol vehicle after completing the FTO period. Uniforms and more than $9,000 worth of equipment are issued at no cost, and recruits receive three hours of on-duty physical training per week. Other benefits include 40 paid days of leave annually, 150 hours of new parent leave per qualifying event, and multiple insurance options covering health, vision, dental, and life.
The Indiana State Police pension program provides a lifetime pension after 25 years of service, along with deferred compensation with state matching. Retirees and their families are covered under health, dental, vision, and pharmacy plans until age 65. Disability coverage, life insurance, and student loan forgiveness opportunities are also available.
To qualify, applicants must be United States citizens between the ages of 21 and 40 at the time of appointment on March 19, 2026. They must possess a valid driver’s license, hold a high school diploma or equivalency, and meet minimum vision standards.
Current in-state and out-of-state law enforcement officers may apply if they are full-time merit officers with at least three years of continuous service by January 18, 2026. Those accepted will be afforded their district of choice, with out-of-state certifications subject to review by the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board.
