The Patoka Lake Watershed Steering Committee will host its 19th annual Patoka Lake Clean-Up Day on Saturday, September 27, in conjunction with National Public Lands Day. The event begins at 8 a.m. at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers office near Patoka Lake, located at 4512 N. Cuzco Road in Dubois County.
Volunteers of all ages and abilities are welcome to participate. Upon arrival, participants can sign in, receive supplies, and be assigned a designated area to collect trash and recyclables around the lake. All cleanup materials will be provided.
At 11 a.m., all volunteers will return to the dam area for a free fish fry, along with door prizes and goodie bags. Participants are required to wear closed-toe shoes and long pants for safety during the cleanup.
Since 2008, nearly 2,000 volunteers have taken part in the annual event, collecting more than 23 tons of trash from the lake and surrounding areas. The initiative aims to protect water quality, wildlife habitats, and recreational access throughout the Patoka Lake watershed.
Organized service and youth groups are encouraged to register in advance by contacting the Patoka Lake Nature Center at 812-338-5589, ext. 3. Additional event details and updates are available through the Patoka Lake Watershed Steering Committee’s social media channels.
