In the latest feature of the Portrait of a Wildcat series, the Greater Jasper Consolidated School (GJCS) district spotlights Andy Seger, Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of Sales at Wabash Valley, as an exemplar of steadfast commitment, adaptability, and hometown pride. Seger, a Jasper High School alumnus from the class of 1996 who also attended Fifth Street and Jasper Middle School, brings his journey full circle: from Indiana classrooms to major financial centers and back to lead his family’s company.

After earning his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business in 2000, Seger began his professional journey at Goldman Sachs, working in investment banking in both New York and Chicago. He subsequently spent a decade at Frontenac Company, a private equity firm in Chicago, before returning to Dubois County in 2011 to join Wabash Valley—a family-owned egg products business founded and still managed by the Seger family. Today, he oversees finance, sales, and customer relations at Wabash Valley.

Seger regards GJCS as pivotal to his success, crediting its strong academics, dedicated teachers, motivational coaches, supportive friendships, and a prevailing culture of achievement with preparing him for college and beyond. He characterizes Fifth Street, Jasper Middle School, and Jasper High School as formative institutions that completely prepared him for his academic and professional endeavors, and he would not trade that experience for any other.

In his message to current GJCS students, Seger emphasizes three key pieces of advice:

  1. Hard work is essential—there are no shortcuts or secrets to success.
  2. Seek opportunities beyond your comfort zone: consider volunteering, taking on leadership roles, and exploring life and work in different locations.
  3. Surround yourself with people of strong character who impart judgment, values, kindness, and make life enriching and fun.
