Four people were injured in a two vehicle accident late Tuesday morning in Jackson Township.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Departments says at around 10:30 am yesterday a car driven by 86-year old Leroy Pieper of Jasper was stopped in the northbound Lane of Santine Road at the intersection of Schnellville Road while a car driven by 40-year old Heather Puckett of English was traveling east on Schnellville Road.

Pieper told authorities he failed to see Puckett’s vehicle and proceeded north through the intersection along Santine and into Puckett’s path and the two vehicles collided.

Deputies say the impact between the two caused Pieper’s car to spin around coming to a final rest facing south along the north east corner of the intersection while Puckett’s car came to rest just east of the intersection partially off the side of Schnellville Road.

Puckett suffered chest pain and a minor injury to her hand. She was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital in Jasper for treatment. Pieper complained of being light headed. A passenger in his car, 76-year old Joseph Pieper of Jasper reported of pain to the chest while a passenger in Puckett’s car 90-year old Margaret Ruhe of Ferdinand also complained of chest pain.

Those three refused treatment at the scene but were later taken by personal vehicles to Memorial for treatment.

Damage to Pieper’s car was listed at 5-thousand dollars while damage to Puckett’s vehicle was listed at 75-hundred dollars.

No charges were filed.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by Schnellville First Responders and Memorial EMS.
