Local- The Holland Town Council met recently and learned that the town is awaiting cost estimates for the latest inspections of the water towers in Holland and Stendal.

Council members met last month with Stendal-area water customers to go over options for upcoming water system upgrades.
Holland may seek a grant from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs for water upgrades that could range from $4.3 million to $6.2 million.

Council President Tom Thacker says Holland has contacted two additional companies that rehabilitate water towers and construct new ones. Representatives from those companies are expected to visit soon.

The town also is planning is to use town equipment/gauges to search for water loss in the community’s system. New testing equipment may be purchased. Thacker says it is thought older meters could be registering lower gallonage than is actually going through them causing what appears to be water loss.

SPRING CLEAN UP

Also the council learned that spring cleanup days will take place from 8 am till 4 pm this Saturday May 13th, and from noon till 4 pm this Sunday the 14th.

Dumpsters will be made available at the wastewater lagoon site a half-mile west of Holland on County Road 900 South so residents can dispose of large household items.

Items that may NOT be dropped off include:

Hazardous Materials such as paint or chemicals,

No tires will be accepted,

All freezers must be free of freon or there will be a charge of 15-dollars,
The event is for Holland residents only and a paid town sewer bill must be shown by those visiting the site.

If residents on the outer fringe of Holland would like to bring items to the site, they may do so but will be charged $25 per pickup load.

In regards to the elderly, if you would like to have some items picked up and disposed of, please call Holland Town Hall at 812-536-3640.
