A Dubois woman was placed under arrest on a charge of battery Wednesday night when police say she attacked a passenger in her ex-husband’s vehicle in front of a Jasper residence.

Around a quarter till 7 last night Jasper Police were called about a verbal confrontation taking place in the street in an area along the 900 Block of Bartley Street.

Wininger MugshotPolice say when they arrived they found 62-year old Shirley Wininger of Dubois punching and scratching at a passenger of a parked vehicle.  Police say Wininger was leaning across the driver’s seat during the altercation.

Wininger’s ex-husband, who was with the victim, told police she followed him from Bretzville until he picked the victim up. Police say once the victim was inside the vehicle with Wininger’s ex, Wininger began to follow them very closely and in an aggressive manner.

Wininger’s ex told police he then pulled his vehicle to the side of the road in front of a home along Bartley in order to talk with her. That’s when Wininger began attacking the passenger in her ex’s car.

Police say the victim had visible scratches on her arms, upper chest and forehead area. They say the victim was also bleeding on her right hand but refused medical aid.

Police say due to what they witnessed, the injuries to the victim, and several statements matching what appeared to have occurred, Wininger was taken into custody on a Class A Misdemeanor charge of Battery and lodged into the Dubois County Security Center.
