A Jasper man was placed under arrest Monday night on a Dubois Circuit Court warrant charging him with multiple felony and misdemeanor counts.
25-year old Thomas Gootee of Jasper faces a Level 5 felony count of confinement, a Level 6 felony count of strangulation and misdemeanor counts of battery resulting in bodily injury, intimidation and criminal mischief.
Back on September 1st, Indiana State police were informed by a female victim that she was allegedly battered by Gootee in the early morning hours of June 21st. The report prompted state police to open an investigation on the alleged offense.
The female victim told police details of a physical assault resulting in injuries that allegedly occurred after she tried to leave Gootee’s residence that day.
During the incident that allegedly involved choking, the victim told police, Gootee pulled her cellphone valued at more than $750 from her purse, took it into a garage and broke it with a hammer.
The victim says it took in excess of two months to report the assault because she was scared of Gootee. Police say the the victim provided pictures of her injuries from the incident.
State police interviewed Gootee last month about the allegations and he allegedly admitted causing the victim’s injuries and breaking her phone.
Authorities booked Gootee into the Dubois County Security Center.
