2016 looks to be another busy year on the election front and with the new year less than a week old candidates are already beginning to throw their names in the hat with intentions to run for seats on this years ballot.

Official filings begin today for those wishing to seek office

For voters in Dubois County 2016 will see candidates seeking the office of President of the United States. A new president will be elected next November as current President Barack Obama is term limited.

Indiana voters will also choose a U.S. senator, U.S. representatives, a state governor, an attorney general, a superintendent of public instruction and state representatives.

The filing period will close at noon Friday, Feb. 5.

On May 3rd, voters will select a party ballot and vote for candidates to represent the party in the November 8th general election.

In addition to the aforementioned offices Dubois County’s primary ballot includes:

  • State representative districts 63 and 74
  • County treasurer
  • County coroner
  • County surveyor
  • County commissioner districts 1 and 3
  • and thee County council at-large seats.

Candidates running for county seats can file their paperwork at the Dubois County clerk’s office in the Dubois County Courthouse. Candidates filing for state and federal positions must file their paperwork with the Indiana Election Division in Indianapolis.

Also locally school board elections will be on the fall ballot. The filing period for those seats will open Wednesday, July 27th, and close Friday, August 26th.

The school board seats that will be up for election include

  • Greater Jasper Consolidated School board districts 2, 3 and 4
  • Southwest Dubois County School Board districts 1 and 3
  • Southeast Dubois County School Board at-large and districts A and C.
