An award of $5,000 is being offered by the International Association of Arson Investigators in cooperation with the Indiana State Fire Marshal and the Property Insurance Companies who operate in Indiana for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person believed to have started a fire at a Jasper family’s home early Sunday morning.

Around 4 am Sunday Jasper Police responded to a report of a male intruder at a home along the 1400 Block of Dewey Street. Police say the suspect allegedly took some items from the residence while the occupants were sleeping.

Police say the home’s occupants were awaken as he was leaving and found that he had used an accelerant to start a fire near a rear door to the residence.

The home’s owners were able to extinguish the fire with minimal damage.

Police say their investigation is continuing with the help of the Jasper Fire Department, the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s office and the Indiana State Police Evidence Technicians.
