Margaret E. Beckman, age 84, of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 1:40 a.m. on Monday (June 6, 2016) at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper, Indiana.

Margaret BeckmanMargaret was born in Jasper, Indiana on July 11, 1931 to Cyril and Margaret (Seacrest) Wilson. She married James F. Beckman in Attica, Indiana on January 5, 1957. He preceded her in death on October 14, 1999.

Margaret graduated from Jasper High School in 1949, Stephen’s College, Columbia, MO in 1951, and then from Colorado State University in 1953 with a degree in journalism. While at Colorado State University, she was a member of the Phi Delta Sorority.

She worked, after college, for the Ohio Oil Co. in Terre Haute. She then moved to Attica, Indiana and worked in a friend’s dress shop called the Jean Miller Dress Shop. She also worked in the Fountain Co. Assessors’ Office.

She was a member of the Eastern Star, Tri Kappa in Attica, Indiana, and was active in the Republican Party in Attica, Indiana for many years. She also belonged to a couple’s poker club with her husband and a ladies’ Bridge Club.

She enjoyed playing poker and Bridge. She loved animals, and donated food to the Animal Shelter in Attica and the Dubois County Humane Society. She loved doing crossword puzzles, reading with her social circle in Attica, and spending time with her family and friends.

Preceding her in death besides her husband are two brothers-in-law, Tom and Mike Beckman, and one niece, Debbie Beckman Chaney.

Funeral services for Margaret E. Beckman will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday (June 9, 2016) at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper, with entombment to follow in the Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum in Jasper.

Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the 2:00 p.m. service time at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel on Thursday. Rev. Jim Neely will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, the Dubois County Humane Society or a favorite charity.
