A Jasper man is in custody on a pair of charges after he allegedly attempted to flee law enforcement and was later found to be in possession of marijuana Monday evening.

Just before 8 o’clock last night, an officer with the Jasper Police Department noticed a passenger car driven by, 35-year old Victor Birkle III, of Jasper traveling south on Newton Street near Brucke Strasse on the city’s near south-side.

Police say the officer clocked Birkle’s car going 53 in a 35 MPH zone. As the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop police say Birkle continued south without stopping. They say Birkle ran the stop light at 6th and Newton St. and proceeded to pull into a drive at his home located along the 700 block of Clay Street and turned his vehicle off.

Officers ordered Birkle out of the vehicle and he was detained without incident. Police say after a K-9 search of Birkle’s vehicle four grams of high grade marijuana was located. Birkle was taken to the Dubois County Security Center and booked for Resisting Law Enforcement and Possession of Marijuana.
