Monica M. Knies, age 87 of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 12:22 p.m. on Thursday (September 29, 2016) at Brookside Village in Jasper, Indiana.

monica-kniesMonica was born in Jasper, Indiana October 22, 1928 to Anton and Martina (Schitter) Mehringer.  She married Victor J. Knies, her husband of 65 years, on October 20, 1951 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, Indiana.   He preceded her in death on June 28, 2016.

Monica was a homemaker, she also volunteered for many years at Memorial Hospital in Jasper.

She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir for many years.  She was a member of their Blessed Virgin Sodality, and was active in their (CRHP) Christ Renews His Parish program.  She and her husband Victor were recipients of the Simon Brute Award.

She and her husband were members of the German Club and very active in the Sister Cities Program.

She enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, and spending time with friends and family.

Preceding her in death was one son, Greg Knies , one grandson, Scott Bleemel,  sisters Cleopha Sage and Madeline Keusch, and brothers Ruben, Sylvan, Marvin, Donald, Tom and Rich Mehringer.

Funeral services for Monica M. Knies will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday (October 4, 2016) at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, with entombment to follow in the Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum in Jasper.

Friends may call from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday (October 3, 2016) at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper and from 9:00 a.m. until the10:00 a.m service time at church on Tuesday.    The Holy Family Blessed Virgin Sodality will pray the rosary at 1:45 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, or to a favorite charity.
