An early morning accident along the Jasper-Dubois Road Sunday ended with the arrest of a Dubois man on a charge of OWI. The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says just after 6:30 a.m. Sunday morning 23-year old Justin Keller of Dubois was driving south on the county road just north of County Road 190 North when deputies say his passenger car ran off the west side of the roadway.
They say Keller’s vehicle struck a road sign and continued traveling south, striking a utility pole which in turn disrupted utility service in the area. Deputies suspected Keller of driving under the influence of alcohol. He was taken to the Jasper Police Department for a certified breath test which measured his blood alcohol content at .21 percent more than 2 and a half times above the legal limit. Keller was then placed under arrest and taken to the Dubois County Security Center in Jasper where he was booked on a charge of Operating While Intoxicated.
Damage to Keller’s passenger car was estimated at 12-thousand dollars. Deputies say the Jasper-Dubois Road was closed down for approximately 3 hours while utility services were restored. Dubois County Sheriff Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Dubois Rural Electric Cooperative and Time Warner Cable.
