The Indiana General Assembly will meet at the Statehouse Tuesday November 22nd for the ceremonial start of the 2017 legislative session.
This meeting also known as “Organization Day,” allows new Senators and Representatives to meet those returning for another term and is the day legislators are sworn into office.

District 48 State Senator Mark Messmer of Jasper says as the session gets ready to kick off, it’s important to understand how the General Assembly operates…..

Messmer says while the budget is the primary focus, it is not the only issue legislators will look at this year. He says he and his colleagues will also be examining and voting on a wide-variety of legislative proposals as they continue to make Indiana a great place to live, work and raise a family…..

Messmer says another way to stay engaged is by signing up to receive his electronic newsletter, which is sent to your email inbox. These newsletters provide information about the General Assembly, important events and other news from state agencies.
