An Orange County man escaped injury when his pickup truck ran off a roadway in the northeast corner of Dubois County early this morning striking a utility pole and causing the closure of State Road 56.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says shortly before 4 o’clock this morning a midsize pickup driven by 36-year old Jason Radcliff of Paoli was eastbound on State Road 56 when he told deputies that steering problems in his pickup caused the vehicle to run off the right hand side of the road.

Deputies say Radcliff’s pickup struck a Dubois REC power pole causing significant damage and a power outage in the area.

State Road 56 was blocked or at least down to one lane for about 4 hours while repairs were made.

Once again no injuries were reported. Radcliff’s truck was a total loss and no charges were filed.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by Memorial Hospital EMS, Dubois First Responder’s, Dubois REC and Frontier Communications.
