Yesterday, January 5th,  Maria Serrano of Huntingburg encountered a patch of ice on the road while she was heading south on Ferdinand Road NW, just north of CR 1000S. Serrano lost control of her vehicle, a 2012 Toyota Highlander, which began to spin and cross the center line and run off the left side of the roadway. The Toyota then ran into a ditch, striking an embankment, coming to rest facing south of the roadway.

The use of seat belts and airbags prevented injury, but Serrano sustained a laceration to the ear presumably from the airbag. Serrano was treated at the scene and transported by EMS to the hospital for her injury.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Ferdinand Police Dept., Ferdinand Fire Dept., and Memorial EMS.
