Jasper – Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center has announced the names of the top six physicians nominated for the fifth annual Little Company of Mary Outstanding Physician Award. They are Karim Anwar, M.D., Jonathan Day, M.D., M. Jeannie Gruber, M.D., Frank Hopkins, M.D., Megan Isaacs, M.D., and Bernard Kemker, Jr., M.D. This award is named in honor of the Sisters of Little Company of Mary, the sponsors of Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center.

This award is based on outstanding job performance reflecting Memorial Hospital’s Mission Statement and the Core Values of Respect for Human Dignity, Compassionate Caring, Stewardship, Quality and Justice. To be accepted as a nominee, a physician must be classified as a member of the hospital’s medical staff for a minimum of twelve months and be in good standing with the medical staff. The LCM Outstanding Physician Award will be presented by the Medical Staff President during the hospital’s Medical Staff Appreciation Banquet in April.

 

Dr. Karim Anwar received his medical degree at King Edward Medical College in Lahore, Pakistan. He completed his residency in internal medicine at University of Connecticut School of Medicine and completed a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at University of Massachusetts School of Medicine. He is board certified in medical oncology, hematology and internal medicine, and was appointed to the active medical staff of Memorial Hospital in 2012. Dr. Anwar is an oncologist in the Lange-Fuhs Cancer Center.

 

Dr. Jonathan Day received his medical degree from University of Louisville in Kentucky and completed a residency in diagnostic radiology and a fellowship in abdominal imaging at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He is a member of the American College of Radiology and the American Roentgen Ray Society. Dr. Day has been a member of the active medical staff since 2015 and is board certified in diagnostic radiology. He is a radiologist at Memorial Hospital.

 

Dr. M. Jeannie Gruber received her medical degree at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis and completed a residency in family medicine at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, IN. She joined Memorial Hospital’s medical staff in 1999 and is board certified in family medicine. Dr. Gruber’s office is located at Santa Claus Family Medicine, 92 W. Christmas Blvd. in Santa Claus.

 

 

Dr. Frank Hopkins is board certified in both internal medicine and geriatric medicine. Dr. Hopkins received his medical degree at Ross University School of Medicine in Dominica, West Indies and completed both his internship and internal medicine residency at St. Luke’s Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, where he also served an additional year as chief medical resident. Dr. Hopkins joined the active medical staff in 1989. His office is located at Memorial Internal Medicine, 751 W. 9th Street in Jasper.

 

Dr. Megan Isaacs received her medical degree at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis and completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at St. Vincent Hospital and Health Services, also in Indianapolis. Dr. Isaacs is board certified and a fellow of The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. She joined Memorial Hospital’s active medical staff in 2014. Her office is located at Jasper Obstetrics and Gynecology at 613 Dorbett Street in Jasper.

 

 

Dr. Bernard Kemker, Jr. is board certified in general surgery and attended Indiana University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in general, thoracic and vascular surgery at Akron General Medical Center in Akron, Ohio. Dr. Kemker joined the active medical staff in 1991. His office is located in the Medical Arts Building at Jasper Surgical Associates, 721 W. 13th Street in Jasper.
